Ali Raza Sadpara, a world-renowned climber and climbing specialist from Pakistan, died in the early hours of Friday at the age of 55, because a spinal and ribs injury in a hospital.
Ali was injured earlier this week during a normal training session in his hometown of Skardu in preparation for a planned summer climb of K2, the country’s highest mountain.
Ali’s spinal cord was broken and some ribs were fractured as a result of the stress, according to media reports. At the RHQ Skardu, the 55-year-old was receiving treatment.
Today, at 10 a.m., Ali Raza Sadpara’s funeral prayers were offered.
Ali began climbing in 1986 and has summited 17 8,000m peaks, including all of Pakistan’s except K2, and was planning to summit K2, the world’s second-highest peak, this season.
Broad Peak, Gasherbrum I, Gasherbrum II, and Nanga Parbat were among Ali’s 17 summits. No other Pakistani has climbed more than 8,000 meters in altitude.
Muhammad Karim or ‘Little Karim,’ a Pakistani high-altitude porter-turned mountain climber who ascended Gasherbrum II without supplemental oxygen, died earlier this year after losing his battle with liver cancer.
