Alberta's great relief as tornado warning clear

Severe thunderstorms moved through Alberta late Wednesday. Tornado warnings and watches for areas north of Calgary have ended. Environment Canada meteorologists tracked storms in Lacombe County. These storms could have had damaging winds, large hail, and heavy rain.

The tornado warning ended before 9:30 p.m. The tornado watch ended for many areas closer to Calgary. These areas included Cochrane, Airdrie, Drumheller, Sundre, and Red Deer.

Tornado in central Alberta damages homes

Residents should take cover if bad weather comes. Go inside to a room on the lowest floor. Stay away from windows and outside walls. Environment Canada says to leave mobile homes and vehicles. Move to a strong building if you can. As a last resort, lie in a low spot and cover your head.

Calgary and much of southern and central Alberta are still under a heat warning. The weather should cool down by Thursday.
