According to Hasaan Khawar, a Punjab administration official, the government would soon adopt a modernized traffic control system after Murree tragedy to assist tourists throughout the province.
He indicated that the Punjab government will develop a better system after recognizing the flaws in the current one, which led to the Murree tragedy, which claimed the lives of 22 people.
He also stressed the importance of updating the “regulatory structure” and implementing traffic improvements, as well as the Rescue 1122 for better emergency management.
According to Khawar, the government will shortly launch an awareness campaign through media sources to educate people about the route and travel during snowfall, as well as a safe winter journey to tourist spots.
Murree Tragedy
Tens of thousands of tourists flocked to Punjab’s hill town of Murree to enjoy the snowfall, but a big number of vehicles became stranded in the snow on Friday night, killing 22 people.
Eight of them died from frostbite in their automobiles, while others died from asphyxiation from breathing exhaust fumes in snow-covered vehicles.
The Punjab government declared the area in and around Murree calamity-hit on Saturday morning.
Videos published on social media, according to AFP, showed automobiles packed bumper to bumper with one-metre-high snow heaps on their roofs.
The National Weather Forecasting Centre’s website predicted significant snowfall in the area till Sunday afternoon.
