After eight years, Google Chrome finally changes its logo

This year, Google’s app upgrades appear to be on fire. The search engine behemoth first updated the Gmail layout, and now, after 8 years, the platform has finally brought out what is arguably its most-anticipated update: a revamp of Chrome’s logo.

For the first time since 2014, Chrome’s logo has been updated. The difference is difficult to see because the alteration is so minor, but if you look closely enough, you might be able to tell the new version from the previous one.

In a Twitter post, Google designer Elvin Hu offered us a nice first look at the new logo design. In the thread, he also shared the fundamental design thoughts.

The new logo features bolder colors and a wider blue circle in the middle that is devoid of shadows. Because the shadows that were previously present have been removed, the colours appear more bright this time.

Because Chrome’s update is so slight, it won’t be confusing. The update was first implemented in Chrome Canary, the developer version of Chrome, but it will soon be sent out to the beta and mainstream versions. The main Chrome logo is being tweaked further more to look more at home on Windows, MacOS, and iOS.

The colors of the logo on ChromeOS are more colourful to match the other system icons, whilst the logo on macOS has a more 3D appearance. Meanwhile, the colors in Windows 10 and 11 are graded and appear to get darker as you move closer to the bottom.

However, due to Chrome’s dominance, which accounts for 63 percent of all web usage, according to analytics firm StatCounter, Google is hesitant to make major changes.
