Another record held by Pakistan thanks to Abdullah Shafique

Abdullah Shafique, a young Pakistani Test opener, broke numerous batting records in the fourth innings of the first Test match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Abdullah’s outstanding performance of 160* off 408 balls, the best run-chase ever at Galle Cricket Stadium, gave Pakistan a decisive win in the two-match Test series.

In addition to setting a new record, Abdullah’s heroic performance made him the first batter in Test cricket history to bat for more than 500 minutes during a successful run-chase. In total, Abdullah spent 524 minutes on the field during the fourth inning.

Similar figures were previously attained by players like Mike Atherton and Babar Azam, but thanks to their efforts, their teams managed to snag a draw from the jaws of loss.

In the fourth innings of the Test match, the 22-year-old made history by being just the fifth hitter in Test history to play more than 400 deliveries.

Sunil Gavaskar, Mike Atherton, Babar Azam, and Herbert Sutcliffe are just a few of the names on the list.

The youthful opener has seen his international cricket career soar. Ever since making his debut just 8 months ago, he has steadily added runs.

Abdullah Shafique is also the Pakistani batsman with the most runs scored in the first 11 innings of a Test match.

In his first 11 innings and six games, Abdullah Shafique has tallied 720 runs at an average of 80.00.
