45 people killed in Gaza after Israel's airstrike ignites fire

An Israeli airstrike caused a huge fire that killed 45 people in a tent camp in Gaza Rafah city. Officials said this on Monday. Leaders worldwide criticized Israel and urged it to follow a court order to stop the assault.

“The Gaza health ministry said 249 more were hurt,” officials reported.

Mohammad al-Mughayyir, a civil defense official, told AFP: “We saw burned bodies and cut-off arms… There were also hurt kids, women, and old people.”

Rescue work faced problems. “There’s little fuel… and roads got wrecked,” Mughayyir said. “Water’s short to stop fires.”

Israel still acted in Rafah after a UN court said stop. It once called Rafah a safe place.

The attack hit Tel Al-Sultan, where many hid from an Israeli ground move two weeks ago.

Most dead were women, kids, and old people, Gaza health officials said. More hurt may die.
