It is now the most expensive car ever sold at auction, having surpassed the previous record by $95 million. This car is a prototype race car built for the 1956 season, and only two were ever built.

The auction took place on May 5 at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Germany, and the winning bid was made on behalf of an anonymous buyer by classic-car dealer Simon Kidston.

This car is valuable not only because of its rarity, but also because of its stunning design, which draws people’s attention.

Despite being a race car, the 300 SLR Coupe was never raced. Instead, Rudolf Uhlenhaut, who was in charge of testing at Mercedes, used it as his personal company car.

The car’s powerful eight-cylinder engine produced approximately 300 horsepower and could reach speeds of up to 180 mph, making it one of the fastest road-legal cars at the time.

This iconic car is a hardtop version of the popular open-top 300 SLR race car. It has been in Mercedes-Benz’s private collection since its creation, adding to its historical significance and increasing its value.
