11 revoked POL exploration licences are approved by the cabinet

On the proposal of the Petroleum Division, the federal cabinet approved the restoration of 11 revoked petroleum exploration licences, and exploratory activities will now begin in these 11 blocks.

The Post Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) report for the 2022 floods was delivered at the federal cabinet meeting on Thursday, which was presided over by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the European Union, the United Nations, all provincial governments, the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan, the Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, civil society, academia, and NGOs were all involved in the preparation of the PDNA report, the Ministry of Planning informed the gathering.

According to this study, floods in 94 districts inflicted harm, particularly to 17 important economic sectors like health, agriculture, industry, infrastructure, and communication.

The gathering was informed that the agriculture sector in Sindh province, which was hardest hit by the flood, suffered significantly from it.

The PDNA would support medium- to long-term planning to reconstruct flood-affected communities in a climate-resilient way, it was announced during the meeting.

The cabinet meeting was also made aware that a Resilient, Recovery Renovation and Rehabilitation Plan is being developed in the context of the PDNA, and that all relevant federal ministries and divisions as well as all provincial governments are being consulted.

The prime minister commended the Federal Ministry of Planning’s work in establishing the PDNA and instructed that the Resilient, Recovery, Renovation, and Rehabilitation Plan be finished as quickly as feasible.

He commanded that consideration be given to all provinces’ and other stakeholders’ opinions in this matter.
