As a result of the monsoon-caused floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Gilgit Baltistan (GB), there are more reports of tourists becoming stopped on the Karakoram (KK) highway.
Tourists Trapped Due To Landslide
On the Gilgit-Skardu Road, a terrible landslide happened. Fortunately, there have been no confirmed fatalities as a result of the incident, but hundreds of tourists are still stranded.
The Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) is clearing the Karakoram Highway at Jijal, Pattan, Uchar Nullah, and other areas, according to Ghulam Abbas, deputy director of the National Highway Authority (NHA) for Shangla and Kohistan in KP.
Floods in August of last year wrecked the Uchar Nallah bridge, which has not yet been rebuilt.
According to Asadullah Khan, chairman of Upper Kohistan’s Harban tehsil, streams in the area overflowed following heavy rain, impeding traffic, stopping pedestrian walkways, and harming water supply infrastructure.
According to an officer, work was also being done to clear the route at Basari and Gadoon. Water supply lines, pedestrian paths, and the Karakoram Highway to the Harban Valley were “completely washed away,” creating issues for the villages, he continued.
The government is recommending tourists not to visit the aforementioned areas during the rainy season because landslides are more likely to occur then.
